The North Highland Curling Trust held a Car Treasure Hunt yesterday afternoon to raise awareness and funds for the proposed  re-establishment of a curling facility in the Easter Ross and Sutherland area.

The Trust was set up in May 2009 to investigate as to whether it was a viable option to re-establish a curling facility in the area after the Brora Ice Rink closed in 2006.

The Trust completed market research and established there was an appetite amongst curlers and local service providers for such a facility. The Dornoch Firth area was identified by the Trust as the ideal location as not only is it the centre of the proposed area but it was seen as having the capacity to serve any additional visitors needs for accommodation and other services.

The North Highland Curling Trust not only envisage  the facility as a home for the local clubs but also as the breeding ground for the young curlers in the area with come and try sessions and coaching for local school children.

The fundraising efforts of last year amounted to £8000 and this year the trust is hoping that this year will be as successful.
