The Mansfield Residents Group held a meeting on Tuesday evening and appointed their office bearers. The Chairperson is Sandra Smith, Vice Chairperson is Rachel McCullough, Secretary is Evelyn Foley and Treasurer Helen MacDonald.

As well as residents of Mansfield Estate, the meeting was attended by Highland Councillors Fiona Robertson and Alasdair Rhind, Highland Council Tenant Participation Officer, Lorna Simpson, Assistant Area Housing Manager North, Jim Holden and a representative from the Police.

A walk about was held in December and updates of action from this were reported.  It was agreed by Mr Holden that he will liaise with Highland Council TEC Services to arrange a full 'spring clean' for the full estate involving the removal of weeds, litter picking etc.  A wide range of works required were discussed and it was agreed that these will be prioritised.  Works include repairs to steps, new handrails, replacement and cleaning of gutters and downpipes, power washing of pathways and buildings, window sill repairs, improved lighting and communal bin areas upgraded.

It was noted that there is an issue with the emptying of bins and it was agreed that further information on use of recycling and household bins is required.

The planned new play park was discussed.  Parents have considered various play equipment brochures and identified suitable items for a new play park.  The immediate priority is to assess the drainage requirements at the area of the proposed play park and Graham Mackenzie, Highland Council Community Works Manager is currently working to establish what is required and the costs involved.  This work will need to be carried out prior to putting in a new play park.

Highland Councillor Fiona Robertson said “It is a positive development having the group in place as it allows partnership working between Highland Council, the Police and residents.  Together this partnership is able to identify the issues requiring attention and work to ensure that action is taken.  It is very encouraging for all of us to attend these meetings and feel that achievements can be made.”

The next meeting of the group will be held on 13th March.
