The Mercat Community Centre in Milton held a Burns Supper and Ceilidh on Friday the
27th of January. This was the first evening event to be held at the Centre and it
was a great success with a fantastic turnout of local folk to support it. KALE Treasurer
Ann Macleod read the Selkirk Grace and the Address to the Haggis was kindly given
by the Reverend Fraser Stewart: the new minister of the Kilmuir and Logie Easter
Parish.
The entertainment was provided by the Poit Dubh band; who played a varied
selection of songs both modern and traditional, including a very interesting combination
of the bagpipes and the didgeridoo!
The event would not have been possible without
the dedicated staff and volunteers who helped to organise and run it. Special thanks
are due to Mairi Crow, Joanna Crow, and Wilma Wilson for cooking such fine fare,
to Hazel Bailey, Karen Widdows and Amanda Widdows who volunteered to steward the
event and to Debbie Anderson and Donna Glennie who kept the whisky flowing from behind
the bar.
KALE would also like to thank all of the local people who came along and
supported our first event; they hope that you had a brilliant evening and that they
will see you at their next one!
