Once again the Highlands draw in some of the big names in music this year when Simple Minds come to the capital on Saturday 16th of July 2011, for their only Scottish date this year.

With over 40 million album sales to date, Simple Minds is the most successful Scottish rock band of all time. Their 21 UK top twenty singles, including 8 top 10 hits, are testament to the quality and depth of their catalogue of great songs.

Highland music lovers will be treated to hits such as “Waterfront”, “Alive & Kicking”, UK chart topper “Belfast Child” and worldwide No.1 smash, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” in the shadow of the spectacular Inverness Cathedral.

Joining Simple Minds on what is set to be a fantastic experience for fans of classic Scottish rock will be Big Country, who had their own chart success in the 80s and 90s achieving 15 hit singles - including 4 top ten hits, with classics such as ‘Wonderland’, ‘Look away’ and ‘In a Big Country’.

Kenny Cameron of promoters CK Events is pleased to add the venue to their growing roster of locations, “The Northern Meeting Park is an ideal music venue in the heart of the Highland Capital, allowing us to bring great artists to our ‘Summer in the City’ event. It will provide space for thousands of concert goers and offer the convenience of being right on the doorstep for many Inverness residents.”

July is shaping up to be a busy month for Inverness with shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and guesthouses expecting a record number of visitors to the city.

Inverness BID manager Mike Smith commented, “Once again it is great to see the city hosting such an exciting music event. With the Scottish Open Golf and the Highland Games taking place on the weekends either side of this concert, July is set to be a bumper month for the businesses of Inverness.”
